Moto GP

Moto GP

One of the most profitable times of the year to let your home is for the Moto GP event, typically held in October each year. This event creates a significant spike in demand (for homes on/near the Island) for what would otherwise be a standard weekend.

Linen & Special touches

Although the vast majority of our homes have optional linen for bookings (see Linen for more details), the Moto GP corporation and Phillip Island Racetrack Management require that all bookings for Moto GP should include linen hire, and we therefore factor this into our pricing approach for Moto GP. Further to this, we also add other small touches such as leaving beers in the fridge for some guests. This is done in order to better generate positive experiences and assist with repeat bookings. Some owners also like to add further touches (food, hampers, etc.). Please let us know if you’d like more details about these options.

GP Pricing

GP Pricing is designed with the unique demand patterns of this time of the year in mind. For the homes that this event impacts (i.e. those homes that are on or very close to Phillip Island), a guest can book and stay for between 2 and 7 nights, and they pay the equivalent of 7 nights. Homes further afield can still attract bookings at a higher nightly rate, but without the same Rate Forcing in place. Depending on the changes to demand, you will see pricing vary as we aim to get the best rate for your home. Please see Pricing Your Home – in particular the section on Rate Forcing.

The specific pricing for your home for GP is based on a slightly nuanced approach compared to pricing for all other Seasons. Specifically, the number of beds has a large impact (c.f. number of bedrooms) as the majority of bookings are for adults (mostly male) who don't want to share beds. Some groups (particularly corporate groups and older guests) prefer not to use the top of bunks. Other key considerations for the majority of GP Guests are proximity to the Track and/or shops & restaurants, plus the ability to secure their vehicles (often motorbikes) in a Garage.

Maintenance Blocks before & after Moto GP

Due to the extremely heavy workloads of cleaners before and after Moto GP, you may also note that your home may be unavailable for several days either side of the actual guest booking. This will appear in your HomHero Owners Portal as a Maintenance Block, or the letters "MM". This process helps cleaners manage a particularly hectic schedule and assists in accommodating the larger number of interstate and international guests who may have irregular check-in and check-out times relating to flights, etc. Please help us to manage this extremely busy time of the year by NOT going to your home unless you have pre-booked it well in advance.

Last minute trips to your home after Moto GP

If you decide to make a last-minute trip to your home in the days/week following Moto GP, it can create issues with your cleaner as (taken from The Reality of Holiday Letting) they will “prioritise cleaning those homes that are booked soonest, so if your home is empty the following weekend, it may not have been cleaned, even if guests checked out some days before. Cleaners are expected to do a security check of your home if they are not planning to clean it within ~48 - 72h of guests check out. This will ensure your home is secure, there is no damage/issue to report, heating/cooling is turned off etc, and your home will then be cleaned at the soonest opportunity.” As always, please do not go to your home without putting in a booking first and PLEASE avoid making last-minute Owner bookings in the week following Moto GP.

Moto GP Guests

In the ~25 years of managing Holiday Homes, we have built a very healthy list of corporates who come to Moto GP every year and book multiple homes, some for much longer than the typical 2-7 nights. These Coporate bookings may be for businesses that provide staff at the event, international event planners that arrange travel for guests, corporate sponsors of the event and the actual racing teams. In addition, we have a strong contingent of ‘local’ Moto GP enthusiasts who come back every year.

In general, guests who stay during Moto GP are not looking to party (they spend all day at the track), they pay high rates for their accommodation and rarely cause issues. The large contingent of International Visitors do have their own unique requirements - the demand for our Troubleshooting with Guests for GP is much higher than at other times of the year due to lack of familiarity with, for example, hot water systems. Our addition of the digital guidebook Orana Stay (available in 106 different languages) will assist us in managing these requirements.
